System 3 has officially announced The James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough for Nintendo Switch 2, with a planned release in October.

The collection gathers multiple original versions of the franchise’s classic entries and will be available as both a limited physical release and a digital edition.

The James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough curates 12 distinct versions of four James Pond titles: James Pond: Underwater Agent, James Pond 2: RoboCod, James Pond 3: Operation Starfish, and The Aquatic Games Starring James Pond and the Aquabats.

The compilation preserves builds from the Amiga 500, SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and Commodore 64, aiming to replicate the original visuals, audio, and gameplay across those platforms.

System 3 confirmed the physical collector’s run will be strictly limited to no more than 6,000 copies.

The release will also be offered digitally for Nintendo Switch 2.

The collection includes modern features such as multiple save-as-you-play slots, controller rumble support, adjustable scanlines, in-game audio controls, and custom bezels to tailor the presentation while retaining the originals’ character.

An all-new interactive hub called the Pondverse is a headline addition.

The Pondverse collects character profiles, biographies of heroes and villains, series history, level information, original box and packaging artwork, and a series timeline.

System 3 says the hub also includes newly crafted 3D artwork inspired by the original pixel designs.

Ahead of the game’s October launch, System 3 plans to release an original studio-recorded song titled “Maybe,” inspired by series antagonist Dr Maybe; the track is scheduled for release on Spotify and Apple Music.

System 3 founder and CEO Mark Cale framed the project as both a preservation effort and a bridge to new players, emphasizing the team’s intent to conserve the various versions, soundtracks, artwork, and the franchise’s distinct personality while making them accessible on modern hardware through the new Pondverse and a limited physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition.

First introduced in 1990, James Pond combined platforming with comic secret-agent themes across home computers and consoles; The James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough seeks to consolidate that history for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

A trailer for the collection accompanies System 3’s announcement.
