Nintendo has released a prologue trailer and a detailed feature breakdown for Star Fox, confirming the title will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on 25 June 2026.
Framed as a modernised reimagining of Star Fox 64, the new entry updates visuals, cutscenes, and audio to take advantage of the performance capabilities of Nintendo's next home-handheld hybrid.
Prologue trailer — Venom and the Pigma betrayal
The newly published prologue trailer depicts the pivotal battle on Venom.
In the sequence, the Corneria Defense Force dispatches the Star Fox squadron to investigate suspicious activity on the planet.
As the team discovers that Dr. Andross has assembled an invasion force aimed at the Lylat System, squadron member Pigma betrays the team, setting the conflict in motion.
How Nintendo describes the game
Nintendo presents Star Fox as a cinematic reimagining of Star Fox 64, featuring redesigned character models, overhauled stage visuals, fully voiced cutscenes and an orchestral soundtrack designed to elevate the series’ presentation on Nintendo Switch 2.
Gameplay, modes and core features
- Modernised campaign: The Campaign Mode revisits the branching mission structure familiar from Star Fox 64, with routes that change based on player actions.
Players can select Easy or Normal initially and unlock Expert difficulty by earning medals.
Environments include Corneria and the polluted oceans of Zoness, plus interior nebula sequences.
- Intense space combat: Pilots will fly the Arwing, using laser fire, boost maneuvers, mid-air braking, barrel rolls and aerial somersaults to engage enemies in both free-flying and corridor-style dogfights.
- Challenge Mode: Cleared stages can be replayed with new objectives at Normal and Expert settings.
- Battle Mode: New 4-versus-4 team dogfights support up to eight players, with three objective-driven stages and options for online private matches or regional matchmaking.
Nintendo Switch 2-specific features
Star Fox leverages Nintendo Switch 2 functionality such as GameShare for local and online cooperative play, Joy-Con 2 mouse-style controls for improved aiming in solo Campaign and Challenge modes, and GameChat avatars and AR filters that map player expressions to characters like Fox McCloud.

Star Fox launches worldwide at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 on 25 June 2026.
