Unlike previous tournaments, unlocking each theme now requires just 20 event points—a substantial reduction from the traditional 100 points—by competing online and placing in the top 25.

This user-friendly change considerably lowers the barrier for dedicated and newer players alike, making the themes more accessible than ever before. According to Nintendo’s announcement, players must participate in Tetris 99’s competitive online mode, where points are awarded based on placement.

Once a player earns 20 points during a 24-hour window, the corresponding Kirby theme is automatically unlocked and added to their collection.
