Hollow Knight: Silksong Developers Confirm Upcoming DLC and Content Expansion

After years of anticipation, Team Cherry released Hollow Knight: Silksong earlier this year to critical and commercial acclaim.

The Metroidvania sequel, which launched for the Nintendo Switch and other major platforms, captivated both returning fans and newcomers with its rich worldbuilding, challenging gameplay, and meticulously crafted level design.

Now, just months after its release, Team Cherry has confirmed that more content is on the way for Hollow Knight: Silksong, building further excitement in the gaming community. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Team Cherry co-founders William Pellen and Ari Gibson shared new details about the studio’s roadmap for Hollow Knight: Silksong.

While the game's lengthy development cycle was well-documented—spanning almost seven years due to Team Cherry’s commitment to quality—the approach to post-launch content will be markedly different.

Ari Gibson addressed the development timeline, noting that the team does not anticipate the same extended wait for upcoming content.

"We didn’t plan seven years for Silksong.

Not that we expect to take an excessive amount of time, but we still are pursuing the same development philosophy, which sometimes can expand our timeframe," he said.

Gibson reaffirmed that the team is dedicated to maintaining the same high-quality standards, even as they work more efficiently on upcoming additions. William Pellen elaborated on potential new elements players can expect, commenting that the studio has already begun formulating ideas to further enrich the world of Silksong.

He emphasized Team Cherry’s enthusiasm for exploring content that didn’t make it into the base game, as well as expanding on existing characters and lore. One notable highlight from the interview was the confirmation that forthcoming content will likely involve Steel Assassin Sharpe, a fan-favorite character who gained recognition during the original Kickstarter campaign but is currently absent from the main release.

Gibson hinted that this would be an excellent opportunity to shed new light on Sharpe’s backstory, expanding the universe for those eager to delve deeper into Silksong’s narrative. Hollow Knight: Silksong began its journey as a planned DLC for the original Hollow Knight, but its scope and ambition eventually saw it evolve into a standalone title.

Since its launch, it has received universal praise for its art direction, challenging combat, and atmospheric soundtrack.

With the promise of new DLC and the involvement of characters like Steel Assassin Sharpe, Team Cherry continues to set high expectations within the platformer genre. As the studio prepares to deliver additional Silksong content, fans can expect further updates through official channels, including potential announcements on upcoming Nintendo Direct presentations or via the Nintendo eShop.
