Tales of Xillia Remastered Brings Classic JRPG Adventure to Nintendo Switch

Bandai Namco has officially launched Tales of Xillia Remastered, introducing the beloved JRPG to the Nintendo Switch for the very first time.

Originally released in 2011 for the PlayStation 3, Tales of Xillia carved out a devoted fanbase through its gripping narrative, innovative combat system, and memorable cast of characters.

Now, over a decade later, Switch owners can immerse themselves in the acclaimed fantasy epic with updated visuals and modern quality-of-life improvements. Set in the enchanting world of Rieze Maxia, Tales of Xillia Remastered follows the intersecting journeys of two protagonists.

Players can choose to experience the adventure as Jude Mathis, a determined medical student from the capital, or Milla Maxwell, a mysterious woman with the power to command four elemental spirits.

Their story unfolds against a backdrop where humans and spirits coexist, bringing depth and intrigue to the narrative experience that the Tales series is known for. A standout feature of the game is the Dual Raid Linear Motion Battle System, a real-time combat mechanic that encourages strategic teamwork.

Players can pair up with allies to execute devastating combo attacks and unlock special support abilities, ensuring battles are both dynamic and engaging.

The remaster also revitalizes the original anime-inspired illustrations and in-game animations, offering players a visually compelling journey through Rieze Maxia. In addition to upgraded graphics, Tales of Xillia Remastered introduces several enhancements aimed at providing a smoother gameplay experience.

These include an auto-save function, the ability to toggle encounters at will, early access to shops for convenient gear management, and more.

For the first time, all previously released downloadable content—ranging from alternate costumes to valuable in-game items—is bundled with the base game, giving fans the most comprehensive Xillia experience to date. In a statement accompanying the release, Bandai Namco underscored their commitment to bringing classic RPG titles to new audiences, highlighting the Nintendo Switch’s versatility and player-friendly features as key reasons for choosing the platform.

As a spokesperson put it in a revised statement: “We’re excited for longtime fans and newcomers alike to experience Tales of Xillia’s story, enhanced for modern audiences.” Tales of Xillia Remastered will be available worldwide on the Nintendo Switch eShop starting October 31.
