This week’s Nintendo eShop update introduces an enticing collection of new releases, classic content, and special events on the Nintendo Switch platform.

Key highlights include the anticipated launch of Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game, the return of legendary Super NES classic Mario Paint for Nintendo Switch Online members, and a fresh Donkey Kong-themed event in Tetris 99. Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game takes center stage as this week’s headline release on the Nintendo eShop.

Developed by Wētā Workshop and published by Private Division, this life-simulation adventure invites players into the heart of Hobbiton, drawing inspiration from Tolkien’s timeless world.

Gamers can personalize their own Hobbit character and immerse themselves in daily Shire life—gardening, cooking, decorating, and forging meaningful relationships with familiar faces in Bywater.

The game supports a tranquil and engaging experience reminiscent of genre favorites like Animal Crossing, and is now available for purchase on Nintendo Switch. For classic gaming enthusiasts, the Nintendo Switch Online service expands its Super Nintendo Entertainment System collection with the arrival of Mario Paint.

Originally released in 1992, Mario Paint was groundbreaking for its innovative use of the SNES Mouse peripheral, allowing users to create digital art and music.

Now optimized for Nintendo Switch, Mario Paint leverages Joy-Con 2 controls and offers USB mouse support (sold separately), letting a new generation of gamers unleash their creativity.

The title is available immediately for all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

Coinciding with this release, the iconic Mario Paint soundtrack is now featured on the Nintendo Music app, allowing fans to enjoy the game’s memorable tracks, including Gnat Attack and the vibrant Title Theme. Competitive players will not want to miss the 48th MAXIMUS CUP event in Tetris 99, running from August 1 to August 4.

This special event highlights Donkey Kong Bananza, adding exclusive art, music, and unique Tetrimino designs inspired by the latest Donkey Kong release.

Nintendo Switch Online members participating in the event will be able to unlock a limited-time Donkey Kong theme by earning event points. In addition to these flagship titles, the eShop features a diverse lineup of new releases such as Handy Hockey, Astral Takers, and NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound, as well as notable upcoming games like Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2—available August 5.

This week’s eShop update also brings sales and discounts on select games, which gamers can browse on the official Nintendo site. With a mix of cozy adventures, classic experiences, and competitive events, this week’s Nintendo eShop update reinforces the platform’s appeal to both long-time Nintendo fans and newcomers.

Whether you’re exploring the Shire, experimenting in Mario Paint, or battling it out in Tetris 99, the Nintendo Switch continues to deliver diverse and engaging content.
