Putty World on Nintendo Switch 2: System 3 Reimagines Classic Putty Series

Veteran British developer and publisher System 3 has unveiled Putty World for Nintendo Switch 2, a compilation that brings together Putty, Super Putty and Putty Squad in a single, updated package.

Revealed at the Tokyo Game Show as an early technology and graphics demonstration, the project is billed as the first entry in System 3's new "What If?" series, which reimagines how classic games might have looked and played if modern hardware had been available at the time of their original creation.

The playable demo shown at the event is intended to highlight evolving controls, recreated visuals, richer animation and improved playability on Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

System 3 cautioned that the build does not reflect the finished product or final content and that substantial development will continue ahead of the planned Q2 2027 release window.

System 3 said Putty World will connect the entire Putty series into one experience.

The publisher confirmed the collection will include 75 new or extensively updated levels and more than 45 new enemies, alongside expanded enemy behaviours and new combat interactions.

Developers also plan to add end-of-level bosses and dedicated boss battles.

The Putty character has been given greater expressiveness, with the team reporting more than 50 facial-expression combinations to help the character react dynamically to in-game events.

On technical targets, System 3 is aiming for a stable 60 frames per second, 1080p resolution in handheld mode and up to 4K when played on a TV.

The company framed the project as an opportunity to revisit the creative vision of the original Putty games without the technical limits of 1990s hardware, combining the series' trademark character and humour with modern fluidity and visual detail on Nintendo Switch 2.

Mark Cale, founder and CEO of System 3, described Putty World as a creative exercise in imagining what the series could have become with today's technology, pairing the originals' personality with improved responsiveness and visual fidelity on modern hardware.

Separately, System 3 remains involved in another retro collection controversy: James Pond Legacy has faced criticism for its use of generative AI assets.

System 3 is the publisher for that package while Antstream handles its development.

For Putty World, System 3 has only released early technical demonstrations and will provide further updates as development progresses toward the Q2 2027 timeframe.
