Description

Nintendo Switch 2 is rewriting the company’s legacy with third-party publishers, marking a milestone in the platform’s history and reflecting a significant shift in developer support.

Historically, Nintendo hardware platforms often saw limited third-party engagement, but the Switch 2 is redefining expectations, welcoming major franchises and new partners right from its first year on the market. In its latest financial results briefing, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa officially confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 features the "largest third-party software lineup" ever launched with Nintendo hardware.

This achievement, highlighted during the briefing, is attributed to the enthusiastic support of software publishers who have been on board since the console’s debut. "We have not only introduced several successful first-party releases but have also witnessed many software publishers joining us from the very beginning," Furukawa stated.

"This commitment has resulted in the most extensive roster of games ever available in the inaugural year of any of our dedicated gaming systems." This growing library features hit titles catering to both core gamers and families, as Furukawa noted that a "rich lineup" has already landed on the system.

Presenting a visual overview, Nintendo showcased the wide spectrum of third-party and indie hits that have either released or been announced for the Switch 2, underscoring the platform’s newfound popularity among external developers. Among the standout releases making their way to the Switch 2 are AAA games like CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, alongside major upcoming launches such as Yakuza 3 Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties from SEGA, Resident Evil Requiem from Capcom, and Elden Ring from Bandai Namco.

This diverse assortment reinforces the Switch 2 as a vibrant ecosystem for both blockbuster and indie developers. First-party success remains a foundation for Nintendo, with flagship launches like Mario Kart World reaching an impressive 9.57 million units sold and Donkey Kong Bananza tallying 3.49 million units so far.

The upcoming release schedule promises even more excitement, with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment arriving this week, Kirby Air Riders set for a November launch, and the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond slated for December. As Nintendo capitalizes on heightened third-party support and drives strong first-party sales, the Switch 2’s trajectory suggests an exciting 2025 and beyond.

Continued collaboration between Nintendo and leading developers is positioning the system as a must-have for gamers seeking both innovative new adventures and established blockbuster franchises.
