Retroid has confirmed a limited, no-cost RAM upgrade for certain outstanding orders of its handheld consoles, automatically moving affected customers from 8 GB + 128 GB configurations to 12 GB + 128 GB models.

The announcement was posted on Retroid's Discord and reported by Retro Handhelds.

Background

Retroid, the maker of Android-based retro handhelds, has been selling several models including the Retroid Pocket 5 and the Retroid Pocket Flip 2.

Both devices offer multiple memory and storage configurations; the company recently communicated a change affecting the 8 GB + 128 GB option for two specific SKUs.

What Retroid announced

In its Discord message, Retroid said customers with outstanding orders for the 8 GB + 128 GB configuration of the Retroid Pocket 5 and the 865-version of the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 will be upgraded automatically to the 12 GB + 128 GB configuration at no extra cost.

The company also stated that the 12 GB + 128 GB variants will become the new standard configuration for those two models.

Price change and effective date

Retroid confirmed that the 12 GB + 128 GB models will carry a $10 price increase beginning July 15.

Under that change, the Retroid Pocket 5 will be listed at $209 and the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 will be listed at $219.

Context in the handheld market

RAM pricing and availability have been volatile across the electronics industry in recent months, a trend covered by multiple industry outlets.

Retroid's adjustment affects buyers waiting for fulfillment rather than newly placed orders for unaffected SKUs.

Retro Handhelds reported that the company appears to be substituting the higher-memory configuration when the 8 GB stock is no longer available.

What remains unchanged

Retroid continues to offer an 8 GB + 128 GB SKU for the Retroid Pocket 6, which has not been listed as affected by this change.

The automatic upgrade applies specifically to outstanding orders for the two models named by Retroid.

For consumers following handheld gaming developments alongside platforms such as the Nintendo Switch or announcements via Nintendo Direct and eShop activity, this move is a notable example of how smaller hardware makers are managing inventory and pricing in a tight component market.

Buyers with outstanding orders should consult Retroid's official Discord or their order confirmation for specific details and any follow-up communications.
