Retroid Pocket Nova: first images and verified screen specs announced

Retroid has released the first clear images and display specifications for its upcoming handheld, billed in company posts as the Retroid Pocket Nova (also referenced simply as Retroid Nova).

The manufacturer published these details across social channels on June 22–23, 2026, following a short tease campaign.

The company confirmed the device’s display hardware and showed the unit’s front controls while noting additional product information will follow ahead of pre-orders.

Confirmed hardware and design details

Images released by Retroid show the handheld’s face featuring XYAB buttons, a D‑Pad and dual analogue sticks; the photographs depict the analogue sticks positioned at the bottom of the device.

Retroid previously offered stick placement options on the Retroid Pocket 6, when customers could choose top or bottom thumbstick layouts, a manufacturing detail that informed the Pocket 6’s market reception.

The company specified the Pocket Nova’s panel as a 4.5‑inch AMOLED with a native resolution of 1280 x 960 and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Retroid has described the display in promotional material using the term "Modern OLED," which the firm has used to emphasize the panel’s 4:3-oriented presentation for retro titles.

Missing internal specs and colour options

Retroid has not yet disclosed the Nova’s internal chipset, memory, storage, battery capacity or operating system details.

Alongside the images and screen information, the company revealed seven colourways the unit will be offered in when pre-orders open: Black, 16 Bit, GC, Crystal, Watermelon, Clear Purple and Ice Blue.

Context: Retroid’s recent product history

Retroid’s announcement arrives after the company’s earlier Pocket Mini controversy, in which users encountered screen‑scaling problems that were initially described as unfixable.

That episode led to customer refunds, replacement screens in limited cases and a hardware revision branded the Retroid Pocket Mini V2, which has since been discontinued.

Where this fits in the handheld market

Retroid’s devices target the handheld emulation market and coexist alongside commercial platforms such as Nintendo Switch, which remains the primary mainstream portable home-console hybrid supported through official channels like Nintendo Direct and the eShop.

Retroid’s incremental updates and public product disclosures will be watched closely by that community as the company prepares for pre-orders.

Retroid has signaled it will roll out additional technical details ahead of the preorder window; at present, the 4.5‑inch AMOLED, 1280x960 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate are the clearest, verified specifications available.
