Since its reveal, the Nintendo Switch 2 shipped with an LCD panel, but a new report from ZDNet Korea suggests Nintendo is actively considering an OLED revision for the platform.

The story, attributed to reporter Lee Ki-Jong and based on three industry sources, outlines a possible development timeline, supplier involvement, and the key tradeoffs that could inform any future Switch 2 OLED model.

ZDNet Korea reports that one source said Nintendo is exploring a Switch 2 OLED model that would upgrade the handheld display from the original Switch 1 OLED's HD resolution of 1280x720 to full HD 1920x1080, and that product development could begin at the end of this year.

A second source indicated Nintendo is looking at rigid OLED panels but has not committed to a release because of the higher cost compared with LCD.

A third source told ZDNet Korea that Samsung Display would work to supply OLED panels for a potential Switch 2 OLED, while noting that the final retail price impact is still uncertain.

Those statements, presented here in clear journalistic language, reflect the current state of industry reporting rather than confirmed Nintendo plans.

ZDNet Korea frames the timeline for mass production as a possibility for late 2027 or early 2028 if development proceeds, which suggests any consumer-facing revision would still be multiple years away.

The consideration of an OLED revision comes against a backdrop of rising component costs across the console industry.

Nintendo previously implemented a price revision for Switch 2 earlier this year, raising the system by 50 USD in the North American market; the company says the new prices have already taken effect in Japan and will be applied to Western markets in September 2026.

Other platform holders have also announced price adjustments for current-generation hardware.

This report follows Nintendo's recent announcement of a hardware revision for Switch 2 in Europe that introduces a replaceable battery, a confirmed change separate from the OLED discussion.

Developers, retailers, and consumers will watch supplier relationships and cost tradeoffs closely if Nintendo moves forward with an OLED option.

At present, Nintendo has not issued an official statement confirming an OLED revision for Switch 2.

The ZDNet Korea report provides the most specific timeline reported to date, but any firm release plans, pricing, and technical specifications will need to be confirmed by Nintendo or official supply partners such as Samsung Display.
