Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Celebrates Fifth Anniversary With New Spirits From Splatoon 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and More

Nintendo is marking a significant milestone for one of its flagship titles, Super Smash Bros.

Ultimate, by celebrating the game's fifth anniversary with a special event for players on the Nintendo Switch.

Launched in December 2018, Super Smash Bros.

Ultimate has become a cornerstone of the Nintendo Switch library, acclaimed for its robust roster and dynamic crossover gameplay.

Since release, the game has broken sales records, surpassing 31 million units sold worldwide as of 2023, making it the best-selling fighting game of all time. To commemorate this anniversary, Nintendo announced a limited-time event featuring brand-new spirits inspired by some of the company's most celebrated franchises.

According to an official update, these new spirits will be available for players to obtain starting January 11th, 2024, for a period of five days.

The diverse lineup includes characters from Splatoon 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Pikmin 4, all of which have made significant impacts on Nintendo Switch in recent years. During the anniversary event, players who defeat these featured spirits in battle will be rewarded with increased gold, enhancing the incentives for participating in the event.

This follows a similar approach to last month's event, which offered players additional experience points, spirit points, and snacks as bonuses.
