Super Mario Run, Nintendo’s breakout mobile platformer, is now officially available for Android devices via the Google Play Store.
This marks a significant milestone in Nintendo’s strategy of bringing its iconic franchises to mobile platforms, following the game’s successful launch on iOS in December 2016.
Developed and published by Nintendo, Super Mario Run was one of the company’s first forays into the mobile gaming space, combining the familiar gameplay of the Super Mario series with intuitive, one-touch controls ideal for smartphones and tablets.
The announcement regarding the Android release was communicated by Nintendo via its official Twitter account, where the company stated that Super Mario Run was released “a bit early” on Google Play.
This early launch came as a surprise to many Android users, with some players mentioning through Google Play store comments that they did not receive notifications when the game became available.
Despite this, the launch has been met with enthusiasm from fans eager to experience the game on their Android devices.
Originally, Super Mario Run was introduced to the public during an Apple event in September 2016, with Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa (then represented by Shigeru Miyamoto) confirming the game’s iOS-first release strategy.
Nintendo’s decision was based on the company’s partnership with Apple to debut the popular plumber’s mobile adventure on iPhone and iPad before expanding to Android.
Super Mario Run for iOS quickly became a top download on the App Store, amassing over 50 million downloads within the first week of its launch.
The gameplay of Super Mario Run offers a fresh take on the classic platforming experience, allowing players to control Mario as he sprints automatically through levels, collecting coins and overcoming classic obstacles with simple tap controls.
The mobile version includes modes such as World Tour, Toad Rally, and Kingdom Builder, providing a variety of gameplay experiences for newcomers and longtime Mario fans alike.
Super Mario Run’s release on the Android platform via the Google Play Store is part of Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to expanding its reach in the mobile gaming market.
Players can now download Super Mario Run directly from the Google Play Store for Android devices, as well as from the App Store for iOS devices.
With this move, Nintendo continues to bridge the gap between console and mobile gaming audiences, reinforcing the global appeal of the Super Mario brand.
Interested players can easily find and download Super Mario Run for their preferred device by visiting the Google Play Store for Android or the App Store for iOS.
