Description

Nintendo has launched a special crossover event in Super Mario Run to celebrate the release of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on the Nintendo Switch.

This limited-time event brings a series of Paper Mario-themed missions and collectible statues to the popular mobile platformer, providing fans with new objectives and exclusive digital rewards. Super Mario Run, originally released for iOS in December 2016 and later for Android, continues to receive updates and dedicated events years after its debut.

This event aligns directly with the arrival of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the beloved GameCube classic, freshly remastered for the Nintendo Switch and released on May 23, 2024 through the Nintendo eShop. Players jumping into Super Mario Run will now find unique Paper Mario missions integrated within the game.

By tapping the Missions icon in the upper-right corner of the kingdom screen, players can view objectives and track their progress.

The initial mission is simple—just visiting your kingdom unlocks the first reward.

Additional missions challenge players with tasks such as defeating particular in-game enemies, collecting designated numbers of coins during a run, and clearing levels within time limits.

Each objective contributes toward unlocking themed statues based on characters from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Rewards include collectible statues of Paper Mario himself, Goombella, and Koops.

The Paper Mario statue becomes available after players complete three missions, while Goombella’s requires six successful tasks.

For the dedicated, the Koops statue unlocks after finishing nine missions.

These decorative items enhance the visual experience within the player's kingdom and serve as badges of accomplishment tying Super Mario Run to the critically acclaimed Paper Mario title. A spokesperson for Nintendo stated that the event is "designed to connect the excitement around the new Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door release with Super Mario Run’s global audience, offering players more ways to enjoy the Mario universe across platforms." This collaboration highlights Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to supporting its mobile gaming audience with innovative crossover content.

Super Mario Run remains available as a free download on both iOS and Android, featuring optional in-app purchases.

Meanwhile, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for Nintendo Switch has impressed both longtime fans and newcomers, thanks to its updated visuals and refined gameplay.

The crossover event underscores the enduring appeal of the Mario franchise and Nintendo’s expertise in leveraging its major releases across multiple platforms.
