Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Coming to Nintendo Switch for 40th Anniversary Celebration

Nintendo is marking the Super Mario Bros.

40th Anniversary with a major announcement: both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are set for a highly anticipated release on the Nintendo Switch.

Unveiled during the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, this double feature launches globally on October 2, 2025, inviting fans old and new to relive the critically acclaimed adventures of Mario in sprawling galactic settings. Originally developed by Nintendo EAD Tokyo, Super Mario Galaxy debuted for the Nintendo Wii in 2007 and quickly established itself as a landmark 3D platformer.

Its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, launched in 2010, further raising the bar with innovative level design and gameplay mechanics.

Both titles have been consistently celebrated for their creativity, stellar gameplay, and technical accomplishments, earning numerous Game of the Year awards and achieving multi-million unit sales worldwide. For Nintendo Switch, fans will have the option to purchase both games in a physical bundled duo pack or buy them separately on the Nintendo eShop.

Notably, this marks the first time both games will be available together on a modern Nintendo hardware platform, reaffirming Mario’s enduring legacy on the company’s best-selling console. Beyond the games themselves, Nintendo is further celebrating the 40th anniversary with two new Super Mario Galaxy-themed amiibo figures.

The Mario and Rosalina amiibo will be released on April 2, 2026, adding to the expanding Super Mario amiibo collection and offering fans collectible figures that can unlock special in-game features. Nintendo also revealed a unique addition for story enthusiasts.

Super Mario Galaxy’s in-game picture book, which tells Rosalina’s origin story, will receive a new page.

Moreover, the narrative from Rosalina’s picture book will be adapted into a real-world publication for the first time.

Pre-orders for this commemorative book will be available on the My Nintendo Store following the Nintendo Direct. With the release of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Nintendo Switch, along with new amiibo figures and exclusive merchandise, Nintendo continues its tradition of celebrating major milestones with innovative releases and nostalgia-driven content.
