Capcom’s celebrated fighting franchise takes a significant step forward as Street Fighter 6 is confirmed for release on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
Officially announced during the latest Nintendo Direct broadcast, Street Fighter 6 is scheduled to launch on June 5, 2025, positioning itself as a key title for the new Nintendo hardware.
This marks a pivotal milestone for both Capcom and Nintendo, as Street Fighter 6 aims to deliver an enhanced fighting game experience tailored specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Street Fighter 6 for Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in two editions: the Standard Edition, which contains the base roster of 16 characters and their original arenas, and the comprehensive Fighters Edition, which includes all downloadable content fighters and stages from Years 1 and 2.
Both versions are designed to fully leverage the Switch 2’s upgraded capabilities, providing improved visuals, smooth performance, and several platform-exclusive features.
A central highlight of the Switch 2 version is its unique implementation of the new Joy-Con 2 controllers.
Capcom is introducing exclusive game modes designed to enhance multiplayer and party play, utilizing the full range of Joy-Con 2’s motion-sensing capabilities.
Notably, Local Wireless One-on-One and Avatar Matches will let players battle wirelessly in new settings, while modes like Gyro Battle and Calorie Contest add an interactive twist, encouraging both strategy and physical movement.
Additionally, Street Fighter 6 will debut with comprehensive amiibo integration.
Three new amiibo figures and a set of 22 amiibo cards will be released alongside the game, enabling fans and collectors to personalize their gameplay experience.
Players can use compatible amiibo to save fighter outfits, control settings, and even their CFN (Capcom Fighters Network) profile directly onto figures.
Unlockable extras, such as themed device wallpapers and character-inspired camera frames, will also be available, enhancing the overall in-game and out-of-game experience for Nintendo Switch 2 owners.
Speaking to the enhancements, a Nintendo spokesperson outlined, 'Street Fighter 6 on Nintendo Switch 2 introduces three distinct game modes, expanded gameplay features, and visually upgraded content.
With the addition of local wireless multiplayer, new avatar-based battles, and unique Joy-Con 2 party modes, Switch 2 owners have more ways than ever to enjoy Capcom’s latest entry in the storied franchise.'
The arrival of Street Fighter 6 as a launch title underscores Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to expanding its hardware’s appeal with major third-party partnerships.
Capcom, for its part, continues to build on the success of Street Fighter 6, which has garnered critical acclaim and robust sales figures on other platforms since its initial release.
For Nintendo Switch 2 users, the various options—including the Years 1–2 Fighters Edition and comprehensive amiibo support—offer multiple ways to engage with the franchise, whether as competitive fighters or enthusiastic collectors.
