Shift Up has updated its plans for Stellar Blade on Nintendo Switch 2, adding a user-selectable frame generation toggle at launch after player feedback from the demo.

The developer’s decision follows reactions to the Stellar Blade Complete Edition demo for the new hardware and comes ahead of the game’s Switch 2 release on 5 November 2026.

Stellar Blade, developed by Shift Up, has been showcased in a demo that used frame generation to target smoother motion and a 60fps presentation on Nintendo Switch 2.

Frame generation (also called frame interpolation in technical coverage) is being used in several upcoming Switch 2 releases to lift action-heavy sequences toward a 60fps target.

Shift Up said it monitored player feedback from the demo and will provide an option at release that lets players enable or disable the feature.

In a statement on the studio’s social channels, Shift Up thanked players who tried the Stellar Blade Complete Edition demo on Nintendo Switch 2 and said the team had been closely watching community responses.

The developer confirmed that, based on that feedback, a Frame Generation toggle would be available at launch so players can choose the display mode that “looks and feels best” for them.

Digital Foundry has also examined the use of frame generation in the Stellar Blade demo, discussing the technical trade-offs and implementation during a recent DF Direct episode.

Coverage from technical outlets has focused on how frame generation can improve perceived frame rates while raising questions about image processing artifacts and latency—topics developers and players have been weighing across multiple Switch 2 titles.

Shift Up’s change mirrors other developers’ approaches; for example, some teams have already announced toggles for frame generation in their Switch 2 releases to accommodate player preference.

For owners of Nintendo’s next-generation portable/home console, the Stellar Blade Complete Edition demo has been available through the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop, enabling hands-on evaluation ahead of launch.

Stellar Blade arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on 5 November 2026.

With Shift Up’s confirmed toggle, players will be able to select whether to use frame generation for a smoother 60fps experience or to play with the base rendering pipeline, reflecting developer responsiveness to demo feedback and ongoing technical discussion in the industry.
