Spike Chunsoft has confirmed the western release of Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space and will include it as an early purchase bonus with the physical edition of Steins;Gate Re:Boot, which launches on October 29, 2026.

The announcement marks the first time Octet of Shifting Space — originally released for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 in 2011 — will be distributed on game consoles and on Steam.

Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space is a deliberate stylistic reimagining of the Steins;Gate universe presented as if built for an 1980s PC.

Spike Chunsoft described the project as recreating the original narrative using the look, sound, and input methods of vintage home computers, and adapted the interface to support both on-screen software keyboards and external USB keyboards on modern platforms.

The title departs from modern visual-novel conventions by restoring text-parser gameplay common to early adventure games.

Players assume the role of Rintaro Okabe and search Akihabara with the Future Gadget Laboratory members to track down the stolen IBN 5100.

Rather than branching choices, progress is achieved by entering free-form English commands, demanding deduction and imagination to discover correct actions and advance the story.

Visually, the game emulates classic screen-drawing techniques from early PC adventures, rendering images line by line before filling them with color.

Players can opt to skip the drawing animation for a faster experience.

Multiple graphics modes replicate vintage hardware displays, from limited 8-color digital RGB palettes to green monochrome monitor styles.

Audio fidelity to the era is a design focal point: the port reproduces FM synthesis and PSG audio chip behavior, with channel differences mirrored to match classic PC sound capabilities.

Composer Takeshi Abo, a long-time contributor to the franchise, handled the music for the project.

Spike Chunsoft has stated that details about a standalone release of Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space will be shared at a later date.

For now, the confirmed pathway to play the title in the West is as an early-purchase bonus included with physical copies of Steins;Gate Re:Boot on October 29, 2026.

Readers can monitor Spike Chunsoft and storefront listings such as the Nintendo eShop and Steam for further updates.
