Nintendo has released a free update for Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the game to Version 1.2.0 and delivering new Battle Mode content, expanded split-screen functionality and a raft of bug fixes.
Announced during a recent Nintendo Direct, the update went live on September 29, 2026, and is detailed on Nintendo's official support page.

Nintendo added three new stages — Katina, Sector X and Venom — and introduced new items that can appear during battles.
The split-screen experience has been expanded: up to four players can now play together on a single Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Nintendo specifies a controller is required for each player, and that Joy-Con 2 and Joy-Con controllers can be used in a solo horizontal grip when playing split-screen.
Nintendo also added a matchmaking convenience: players using split-screen can now participate in random online matches as a team.
For online Battle sessions, the update prevents lobbies from disbanding if the host leaves, improving session stability.
The update includes a number of campaign and challenge adjustments.
A confirmation dialog will now appear when selecting ABANDON CAMPAIGN after a game over in Campaign Mode.
Visual cues have been tweaked to make it easier to tell when players are damaging certain bosses, and specific challenge conditions have been modified to avoid unintended blockages while progressing through Sector X and other areas.
Several crash and freeze issues have been addressed across Campaign, Challenge and Battle Modes.
Fixes cover instances such as crashes triggered by repeatedly selecting RESTART on Corneria, freezes tied to simultaneous ship destruction and boss defeats, and rare cases where boss components failed to reappear.
Battle Mode stability has been improved with fixes for occasional crashes when starting Online Battle matches and problems caused when a host connection was lost.
Score calculation and control issues that affected somersaults and U-turns after certain session interruptions were also corrected.
Camera and accessory support received attention.
When using GameChat with a camera in full screen, the camera feed now appears on-screen during matches in specified moments; a separately sold USB camera is required.
Nintendo notes that not all third-party USB cameras are guaranteed to work and recommends using the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera if compatibility issues arise.
