Nintendo has issued a free update for Star Fox on Nintendo Switch that expands the game’s multiplayer battle mode with three new stages, two new items, and additional profile achievements.

The patch arrives as part of ongoing post-launch support for the title and is documented in the game’s official patch notes available through the Nintendo eShop.

At launch, Star Fox’s battle mode offered a limited rotation of arenas—Corneria, Fichina and Sector Y—and players and critics alike noted a need for more variety.

The new update addresses that directly by adding Katina, Sector X and Venom to the online and local multiplayer rotation.

According to the patch notes, the three new stages introduce distinct objectives and environmental hazards:

- Katina features several orbiting satellites that periodically open capture zones.

Teams that occupy a zone long enough secure the zone and trigger a laser that damages opposing players, creating both a scoring and tactical advantage.

- Sector X centers on a Warp Forge that periodically generates asteroids.

Players earn points by destroying these asteroids while also contending with attacks from the Warp Forge itself.

- Venom places a large central structure on the map and activates scanning zones that grant bonus points when a team maintains control by remaining inside the area for the required duration.

The update also adds two new items to battle mode: the Autoturret and the Multiblaster.

The Autoturret deploys a stationary turret that targets nearby enemies and can be strategically placed near objectives.

The Multiblaster fires multiple laser beams in several directions; early hands-on impressions indicate it is more situational and less effective at securing takedowns than some other items.

New profile rewards and milestones have been introduced as well.

Players can unlock two new profile icons by achieving 20 takedowns with each new item, against bots or human opponents.

The game also tracks two additional achievements: earning the Team MVP accolade 100 times in online matchmaking, and completing a normal or expert campaign run with at least 1,750 hits.

Paraphrasing player feedback from early sessions, the new stages broadly increase variety and tactical depth in battle mode, with Sector X’s asteroid waves standing out for delivering satisfying, action-focused encounters.

Defensive play remains viable—timed barrel rolls, evasive U-turns and somersaults continue to be effective counters when used judiciously.

This update strengthens Star Fox’s battle mode presence on Nintendo Switch and gives players new reasons to return to online matches.
