Final Fantasy Revelation: What Square Enix Revealed About the Final Final Fantasy VII Remake Entry

Summer Game Fest opened with a major reveal: Square Enix confirmed the latest and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, officially titled Final Fantasy Revelation, with a planned launch next spring.

The developer presented the title as a content-rich, visually ambitious capstone to the remake project and followed the announcement with a developer interview that clarified gameplay scope, platform plans, and systems returning from Rebirth.

Development status and platforms

According to developers, the game is playable from start to finish, including side content, and is now in the final polishing stages of production.

They said the primary focus remains on current-gen platforms first, with PS5 and PC versions taking priority; a Switch 2 edition will require an additional round of optimization once PS5 and PC development stabilizes.

The team is also considering a public showing at Tokyo Game Show.

Exploration and air travel

Design notes indicate the Highwind airship is obtainable early and serves as the key to full-world exploration.

Developers explained they settled on a parachute deployment for Highwind landings because precise ship landings proved difficult to implement.

Once airborne, players can fly freely across the globe, and the world wraps seamlessly if players reach its edge.

Returning locations and progression

Square Enix confirmed that all areas from Rebirth return — including Gongaga — though locations will not be carbon copies of their Rebirth counterparts.

The open-world scale has been expanded from Rebirth, and players gain access to the entire map after acquiring the Highwind.

The main story sequence is fixed, but side content and optional activities will vary according to player choice.

Combat, systems and character notes

The team detailed several combat and progression systems: Vincent can toggle between Beast and normal modes instantly, Cid focuses on aerial combat, and there are more combination attacks between characters.

A new FITS job system lets characters switch roles (for example, equipping Black Mage), with four FITS per character, each featuring its own skill tree; developers said all FITS are available from the start.

The developers described the game's central narrative theme as "Resolve," framing both the party's and the studio's commitment to closing the Remake trilogy.

They said Zack will play a larger role than in Rebirth, Wutai is fully depicted, Rocket Town appears late in the campaign, and an underwater area is included.

Knights of the Round are confirmed to appear.

Design choices and side content

The team noted the game will not use the same character-affection mechanics as Rebirth due to narrative differences and that there will be a single definitive ending intended to conclude the remake series.

Side content will vary per player, minigames will offer easy and normal difficulties with an option to skip, and even the more eccentric minigames — such as a Scarlet slapping sequence — will be included.

This summary is based on developer remarks shared after the Summer Game Fest unveiling and in the subsequent interview; Square Enix remains the primary source for release timing and platform details as the project moves toward next spring.
