Background
Final Fantasy XIV is the long-running MMORPG developed and published by Square Enix, relaunched in 2013 as A Realm Reborn and expanded by multiple major expansions including Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers and Endwalker.
The title originally released on PC and PlayStation platforms and — as announced by Square Enix — has now arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 and is available on the Nintendo eShop.
Square Enix says it is working to correct a performance problem affecting that new port.
What Square Enix found
In a customer notice, Square Enix said loading times on Nintendo Switch 2 can be noticeably longer when the screen fades to black during certain in-dungeon or combat transitions.
The developer’s investigation found the slowdown most commonly occurs when a player enters an area while surrounded by a large number of characters.
Under those conditions, Square Enix determined that data reloading and cache-clearing routines required for safe rendering can take an extended time to complete.
The company described scenarios where the delay is most pronounced: when the screen fades to black during a battle-phase transition or when teleporting between maps inside a dungeon; when the screen fades to black on revival after defeat in a dungeon; and when using Warp or the Aethernet within a dungeon.
Planned fix and testing
Square Enix says it has further optimized the data-loading and cache processes to reduce those delays and that the updated program is currently undergoing testing.
The developer confirmed it plans to release a patch as soon as possible to resolve this and several other issues, and asked players for patience while fixes are finalized.

Final Fantasy XIV for Nintendo Switch 2 is listed on the Nintendo eShop.
As with other platforms, the game uses a subscription model; Square Enix has provided platform-specific details through its official channels.
For further information on pricing, Nintendo Switch Online member perks, and the full list of fixes, players should consult Square Enix’s official notice or the Nintendo eShop listing.
This notice comes as Square Enix continues to support Final Fantasy XIV across platforms, and the company is actively addressing platform-specific performance issues identified after launch.
