SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated Showcases Boss Fights in New Nintendo Switch Trailer

THQ Nordic, in partnership with Nickelodeon and developer Purple Lamp Studios, has released a new trailer for SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated for the Nintendo Switch.

The latest footage gives fans a closer look at the game's action-packed boss fights, spotlighting what players can expect as they revisit one of the most beloved 3D platformers in the SpongeBob franchise. Originally developed by Heavy Iron Studios, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom debuted in 2003 on GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox.

The platformer quickly earned a dedicated following for its faithful adaptation of the animated series, witty humor, and engaging gameplay.

Now, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy return in a full-scale remake that features updated graphics, improved mechanics, and new content exclusive to this release. The upcoming Nintendo Switch version preserves the essence of the classic adventure as players unite to stop Plankton's latest scheme to take over Bikini Bottom.

A standout enhancement is the introduction of the horde mode, which supports up to two players in local or online co-op.

This addition provides an engaging multiplayer experience that builds upon the original game’s foundation, allowing friends to join forces as they tackle waves of enemies and boss characters. In addition to the new multiplayer mode, the remake is notable for restoring previously cut content from the 2003 release, including the highly anticipated Robo Squidward boss fight.

This long-awaited battle, absent from the original due to development constraints, now offers fans a fresh challenge and serves as a testament to the developers’ commitment to honoring the legacy of the original game while enhancing it for modern audiences.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is scheduled for worldwide release on the Nintendo Switch on June 23, 2020.

Players will be able to purchase and download the game from the Nintendo eShop on launch day.

With refined visuals, expanded multiplayer features, and restored classic content, the remake stands as a significant milestone for both longtime series fans and newcomers eager to explore Bikini Bottom on current-generation hardware. Since its announcement, the remake has generated excitement within the gaming community, fueled by the pedigree of THQ Nordic and Nickelodeon's collaboration with Purple Lamp Studios.

As the release date approaches, the new trailer offers an enticing preview of the boss encounters and enhanced gameplay, solidifying SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated as one of the most anticipated platformers on the Nintendo Switch for 2020.
