Nintendo Announces 'Splatoon Raiders' Spinoff for Nintendo Switch 2: New Adventure Awaits Fans
In a move that surprised fans and industry observers alike, Nintendo has officially revealed 'Splatoon Raiders,' an all-new spinoff entry in the popular Splatoon franchise.
Announced Tuesday morning, the game is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch 2, marking a fresh chapter for the series after the ongoing success of Splatoon 3.
Splatoon Raiders diverges from expectations as many had anticipated additional downloadable content (DLC) focused on the fan-favorite DJ trio 'Deep Cut' for Splatoon 3.
Instead, Nintendo is introducing a standalone adventure set in the mysterious Spirhalite Islands, with Deep Cut and the beloved Big Man front and center.
According to details shared on Nintendo's official website, players will "take on the role of a mechanic and explore the enigmatic islands alongside the dazzling Deep Cut trio." This setup hints at a more open-ended experience compared to previous Splatoon single-player campaigns.
While a firm release date has yet to be announced, Nintendo released a brief trailer offering the first look at gameplay and story elements.
The footage showcased an Inkling protagonist navigating expansive environments, seemingly prioritizing exploration over the platforming obstacle courses that defined earlier campaigns.
Although Nintendo has not explicitly stated if the spinoff will feature cooperative or multiplayer functionality in addition to its single-player campaign, 'Splatoon Raiders' appears positioned as a distinct narrative experience rather than a sequel or replacement for the mainline series.
Splatoon 3 remains a key pillar for Nintendo, with a Switch 2 update planned for next week to capitalize on the new hardware's capabilities and expanded audience.
With Splatoon Raiders, the franchise continues to evolve across genres and platforms, reinforcing Nintendo's commitment to innovation and creative risks within its flagship IPs.
As the Nintendo Switch 2 prepares for its launch lineup, other major titles such as Mario Kart World and ports like Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade are also slated for release on the new console.
Splatoon Raiders will be available as a digital download via the Switch 2 eShop at launch.
