Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has publicly reiterated his commitment to supporting Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console, further solidifying the collaborative relationship between two of the industry's most influential companies.
In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer reflected on the success of previous collaborations and emphasized the value of reaching new audiences through Nintendo’s innovative gaming platforms.
Switch 2 Set for Global Launch in 2025
Nintendo Switch 2, the highly anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch, is scheduled for worldwide release on June 5, 2025.
The platform is expected to deliver significant advancements in both hardware and functionality, providing new opportunities for third-party developers and publishers like Microsoft to introduce their properties to a broader demographic.
Xbox Franchises on Nintendo Switch: A Growing Portfolio
Microsoft has already brought critically acclaimed titles such as Grounded, Pentiment, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps to the Nintendo Switch eShop.
In his conversation with Variety, Phil Spencer outlined his intention to continue this trajectory.
“We have supported the Nintendo Switch with key titles, and we’re eager to do the same with Switch 2.
Nintendo has been an excellent partner throughout our collaborations,” Spencer stated.
He explained the strategic importance of the Switch platforms by highlighting how they allow Microsoft to reach gamers who may not traditionally play on PC or Xbox systems.
Spencer further remarked, "Expanding our franchises onto the Switch 2 supports our mission of growing a vibrant community and ensuring our game investments reach as many people as possible.
The unique strengths of Nintendo’s platforms enable us to engage with fans in new and meaningful ways."
Future Prospects and Patch Enhancements
While there have been circulating rumors regarding possible ports of major Xbox games such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator to Nintendo’s forthcoming hybrid console, no official confirmations have been made at this time.
However, it has been suggested that existing Switch titles from Microsoft—like Grounded and the Ori series—may receive technical upgrades to leverage Switch 2’s enhanced 4K capabilities.
Ongoing Partnership Between Microsoft and Nintendo
Phil Spencer underscored the importance of maintaining and growing the collaborative relationship between Microsoft and Nintendo, stating, “I firmly believe in Nintendo’s positive influence in the gaming industry, and continuing our support for their platforms is essential.
Mutual support ensures both companies can deliver outstanding experiences for gamers worldwide.”
With Nintendo Switch 2’s June 2025 release drawing near, the gaming community is poised to benefit from continued synergy between two of the world’s leading video game companies.
The integration of more Microsoft franchises onto Nintendo hardware stands to further diversify the Switch 2 library, offering yet another compelling reason for fans and industry watchers to look forward to the next chapter in gaming.
