Description

SEGA has officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated Yakuza DLC in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, further strengthening the crossover appeal of its flagship racing franchise.

Unveiled during the latest Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio live stream event, the new DLC is scheduled for release on November 6th, 2025.

This update will be available across all supported platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, expanding on SEGA’s commitment to delivering continuously engaging content for its player base. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, originally launched as a fast-paced kart racer drawing on SEGA’s rich character roster, continues to receive praise for its diverse DLC offerings and active post-launch support.

With the upcoming Yakuza content, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio—the developer behind the renowned Yakuza series—joins forces with SEGA’s in-house Sonic Team to create a unique crossover experience for fans of both franchises. According to details shared in the official live stream, the Yakuza DLC will introduce Ichiban Kasuga, the charismatic protagonist from the latest chapter in the Yakuza saga, as a brand-new playable racer.

Accompanying Ichiban are a themed racing track inspired by locations from the Yakuza universe and a specialized kart designed to reflect his signature style.

In line with previous content updates, the DLC also launches a limited-time festival event.

Players can participate in the Ichiban Kasuga Festival from November 7th through November 10th, 2025.

As clarified during the announcement, participation in the festival event does not require ownership of the DLC, echoing the accessibility offered in previous events such as the popular Minecraft Festival.

This inclusive approach allows the entire Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds player base to enjoy the excitement surrounding the new content, regardless of individual DLC purchases. Since its debut on the Nintendo Switch and other major platforms, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has steadily grown in popularity, praised for its responsive updates and cross-franchise collaborations.

SEGA’s ongoing strategy to blend characters and worlds keeps the title relevant in a competitive racing genre and demonstrates the versatility of the Nintendo Switch hardware as a platform for both casual and hardcore gamers alike. By bringing together the worlds of Sonic and Yakuza, SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio continue to blur the lines between their flagship properties while appealing to a broad international audience.

As the November 6th launch date approaches, players can look forward to experiencing the energy and attitude Ichiban Kasuga brings to the racetrack.
