Following the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, dataminers report finding file references that point to the classic Master Quest mode.

The Legend of Zelda franchise began on the Nintendo Entertainment System, with Ocarina of Time first released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998; Master Quest originated as a harder variant that has appeared in several subsequent releases, most notably as a separate GameCube disc and as an extra mode in the Nintendo 3DS remaster released in 2011.

Dataminer report

Dataminer MrCheeze has been credited with locating strings and file entries naming “Master Quest” inside the Remake’s data.

According to the published findings, some of those files appear to be gated by an “owning DLC” flag, which in the files indicates the content is treated as downloadable content by the game’s internal systems.

Rewriting MrCheeze’s statement in journalistic terms: the dataminer says the Remake’s code contains references to Master Quest and that access to those assets appears to be controlled by a DLC ownership check.

What is confirmed

- Original release: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time debuted on Nintendo 64 in 1998.

- Master Quest history: Master Quest has previously been distributed as a harder variant for GameCube and was included as an extra mode in the 2011 Nintendo 3DS remaster.

- Developer/publisher: The Legend of Zelda series is developed and published by Nintendo, and the franchise is a longstanding pillar of Nintendo’s catalog across platforms including the Nintendo 64, GameCube, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch.

What Nintendo has said (and not said)

As of this writing, Nintendo has not issued an official announcement confirming Master Quest content, nor has it detailed any DLC plans for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake.

Nintendo typically uses channels such as Nintendo Direct presentations and the Nintendo eShop to announce post-launch content, but no formal communication regarding Master Quest or related updates has been released.

Why this matters

Master Quest is a well-known alternate playthrough in the Zelda community, and references to it inside modern game files are newsworthy because they indicate the Remake’s codebase recognizes the mode.

Until Nintendo confirms through an official announcement or patch notes, these file references should be treated as reported findings rather than confirmed product plans.

We will update this story if Nintendo provides official confirmation or more details about any updates, DLC, or release plans for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake.
