Dodonpachi Resurrection Reignite: Cave Adds 'Royale' Battle Royale Mode to Steam Release

Cave's Dodonpachi Resurrection Reignite adds 'Royale' mode, demo tied to Steam Bullet Hell Fest

Cave, the developer renowned for bullet hell classics such as Dodonpachi, Espgaluda, and Mushihimesama, has confirmed new multiplayer and demo details for its enhanced release, Dodonpachi Resurrection Reignite.

The Reignite edition is part of Cave's new "Refine Series" and builds on the original Dodonpachi Resurrection (Dodonpachi DaiFukkatsu) with additional stages, a new character, and new music.

The original Dodonpachi Resurrection first appeared in arcades in 2008 and has since been released on platforms including iOS, Android, Xbox 360, Steam, and Nintendo Switch.

New 'Royale' Battle Royale mode unveiled

On June 16, 2026, Cave revealed via its social channels that Dodonpachi Resurrection Reignite will include a newly added online Battle Royale mode, simply titled "Royale." The studio described the mode as fast-paced online matches where players from multiple countries compete using in-game items to gain an edge.

The announcement highlighted Cave's intention to expand the traditional shoot 'em up formula with a more chaotic, competitive multiplayer option.

Cave's move echoes earlier experiments: the mobile, Asia-exclusive Gothic wa Mahou Otome (Gomaotsu) previously featured a similar PvP mode called Arena Battle.

Community response and developer context

Reactions to the Royale reveal have skewed positive, with many players praising the mode's unpredictable, party-like energy.

Cave's addition of a cross-region competitive mode follows growing interest in asymmetric and last-man-standing formats within otherwise single-player-driven genres.

Trailer, demo and language support

Prior to the Royale reveal, Cave updated the game's Steam presence with a brief 30-second trailer and announced a timed demo.

According to Cave's June 8, 2026 update relayed by DenfaminicoGamer, a new demo was scheduled for release on June 9, 2026 at 2:00 a.m.

JST to coincide with the Steam Bullet Hell Fest.

The studio also confirmed that Reignite will support seven languages on Steam: English,French,German,Spanish,Simplified Chinese,Traditional Chinese, and Japanese.

The original Steam version of Dodonpachi Resurrection launched on October 14, 2016 and included content from the Xbox 360 1.51 DLC and the Japan-only Black Label release.

What this means for players

Dodonpachi Resurrection Reignite preserves the hallmark elements of Cave's shooters—dense bullet patterns and tactical intensity—while adding features aimed at both returning fans and new players.

Cave has said more release details will follow; for now, players can wishlist the title on Steam and try the demo during the Bullet Hell Fest.

The inclusion of a Battle Royale-style mode represents a notable evolution for a franchise rooted in arcade-style score-chasing and handcrafted bullet design.
