Description

Sega has officially announced that Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, the highly anticipated 2D action platformer, will receive a physical release for Nintendo Switch and additional platforms, with distribution handled by Limited Run Games.

This news follows the game's initial reveal in February 2025, which surprised fans eager for the franchise’s return. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance places players in control of the iconic ninja, Joe Musashi, as he embarks on a quest to avenge the Oboro Clan.

Gamers can look forward to the title’s launch on August 29, 2025, a date that has already been set for both digital and physical editions. In a recent update, Limited Run Games confirmed it will provide a physical version for collectors and fans.

Pre-orders for the standard physical edition and an exclusive collector’s edition are set to open soon, with more details forthcoming.

According to the publisher, this initiative lets players "join Joe Musashi as he seeks vengeance in the latest installment of the Shinobi legacy." The digital version of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be available for $29.99 on select platforms, including the Nintendo Switch eShop.

However, eShop pre-orders will go live at a later, yet-to-be-announced date.

For those interested in different versions, Sega is also offering an Asian multi-language edition, available for pre-order through selected retailers. This collaboration between Sega and Limited Run Games marks a significant milestone.

Not only does it bring one of arcade gaming’s most celebrated franchises to current-generation hardware, but it also serves the demand for collector-focused physical releases on platforms like the Nintendo Switch. Since its debut, the Shinobi series has earned its place as a foundational franchise in Sega’s portfolio.

The return of Joe Musashi in Shinobi: Art of Vengeance aims to deliver both nostalgia and fresh action-platforming gameplay to fans and newcomers.

According to Sega, the new installment will honor the high-intensity gameplay and memorable level design that defined previous entries in the series. With the release date close on the horizon and pre-orders for the physical release imminent, the excitement surrounding Shinobi: Art of Vengeance continues to build.
