Vertigo Games is developing a Nintendo Switch version of Arizona Sunshine, the studio’s well-known zombie-shooter originally created for virtual reality platforms.
The developer confirmed the title will launch digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide “later this year,” adapting the series’ established combat and story for play on a portable home console.
The Switch release is presented as a non-VR rework that preserves the franchise’s core identity while shifting the player experience to a conventional big-screen format.
Vertigo Games has indicated the port is built on the same foundation of the series’ signature brutal gameplay and the narrative themes introduced in Arizona Sunshine VR 2, with both solo, story-driven missions and chaotic cooperative modes emphasized for the new platform.
Key confirmed features for the Nintendo Switch edition include:
- A narrative-driven solo campaign that follows Sunny, a dark-humored survivor on a gore-laced road trip across Arizona alongside his dog Buddy and the undead he calls “Fred.”
- Couch split-screen co-op support, allowing two players to play locally on one system, as well as two-player online co-op for shared multiplayer sessions.
- Playable canine companion Buddy in co-op, capable of interacting with environments and attacking enemies.
- Third-person perspective option, a first for the series outside VR, enabling cinematic combat and a more accessible presentation for TV and handheld play.
- A wide arsenal of weapons consistent with the series, ranging from shotguns and machetes to flamethrowers.
Vertigo Games has positioned the Switch version as an opportunity to experience the franchise’s sun-baked, darkly comic take on the zombie apocalypse outside of virtual reality hardware.
The developer emphasized that encounters can escalate quickly, with split-second decisions and frantic firefights forming a central part of the gameplay loop.
Arizona Sunshine’s arrival on Nintendo Switch expands the series’ platform history beyond VR headsets and brings established cooperative and solo content to Nintendo’s portable home console.
The game will be available via the Nintendo eShop; an exact release date has not been announced beyond the stated window of “later this year.”
