Sega has unveiled an energetic new trailer for its forthcoming kart racer, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, sparking excitement ahead of its highly anticipated Nintendo Switch debut.
The reveal not only showcases the game's fast-paced action and sweeping customization options, but also pays affectionate homage to Sega’s legacy of friendly competition with Nintendo—a rivalry that has enthralled gamers since the days of the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).
The new trailer, released via official Sega channels, cleverly references the iconic advertising duels of the early ‘90s.
Beginning with a humorously pixelated glance at the popular Mario Kart World, Sega’s latest promo suggestively notes, “We all know that kart racing game, it’s great, we don’t need to show it to you.” This opens the door for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds to shine, as the spotlight turns to its array of features, including intricate vehicle customization, expansive tracks, and robust cross-platform multiplayer.
After detailing what makes Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds unique, the trailer circles back with a tongue-in-cheek comparison, showing Mario Kart World as an underpowered, outdated RV struggling on the open road.
The narrator quips, “Oh, what if you want to freely explore the open world?” This playful jab references both Sega’s willingness to experiment with racing formulae and the enduring rivalry between these two gaming titans, but the tone remains good-natured and rooted in nostalgia.
Sega representatives have emphasized the spirit of competition, noting that, “Fans have always enjoyed the friendly rivalry between Sonic and Mario.
With CrossWorlds, we’re excited to deliver fresh gameplay while celebrating the history we share with Nintendo.”
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set for release on Nintendo Switch on September 25, 2025, with a dedicated version for the forthcoming Switch 2 also confirmed for later this year.
A playable demo will be available on the Nintendo eShop this week, allowing players to sample the fast-paced thrills and new mechanics that distinguish CrossWorlds from other kart racers.
This latest promotion from Sega not only fuels anticipation for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds but also rekindles the enthusiasm for one of gaming’s most iconic rivalries.
As both Sega and Nintendo prepare significant kart racing releases for 2025, fans can look forward to revisiting a classic showdown—now rendered in full HD for the next generation.
