Limited Run Opens Pre-Orders for Earnest Evans and Anett Returns on Sega CD: English Releases for Classic Wolf Team Games Classic retro gaming fans have reason to celebrate as Limited Run Games has officially opened pre-orders for English-language versions of Earnest Evans (1991) and Anett Returns / Anett Futatabi (1993) for the Sega CD.

This marks the first time these two cult-favorite titles have been made available in English on the Sega CD platform, a significant milestone for enthusiasts and preservationists alike. The re-releases are being distributed by Limited Run, a publisher with a history of reviving retro titles for modern and legacy systems.

Gamers can secure their copies now, with the official pre-order links available in Limited Run's latest social media announcement.

The company’s partnership for this project emphasizes the ongoing demand for classic Japanese games in Western markets. Both Earnest Evans and Anett Returns are part of Wolf Team’s "Anett and Earnest" trilogy—a lineage that also includes the Genesis release El Viento (1991).

Notably, this series has become a cult favorite among fans of 16-bit action platformers and side-scrolling fighters.

While El Viento and Earnest Evans were released in North America in the early '90s via Renovation Products, the Sega Genesis version of Earnest Evans was stripped of certain features found in the Japanese Sega CD release, such as animated cutscenes produced by renowned studio Madhouse, as well as CD-quality audio. El Viento, the trilogy's action platformer, recently enjoyed a Genesis cartridge reissue through Retro-Bit Gaming, further highlighting the enduring appeal of Wolf Team's catalog.

Meanwhile, the original Japanese version of El Viento remains one of the more collectible titles for Sega enthusiasts, prized for its unique gameplay and historical value. Japanese developer Edia, well known for recent re-releases of classics like Valis and Tenshi No Uta, initially teased this new retro project with evocative artwork showcasing all three games.

According to Edia, El Viento and Earnest Evans remain classics in the action platformer genre, while Anett Futatabi (or Anett Returns for Western audiences) stands out as a side-scrolling beat ‘em up. With the opening of pre-orders, both longtime fans and new players will have the chance to experience these historic titles in accessible English versions on original Sega CD hardware.

This release offers another example of the ongoing efforts by publishers and developers to preserve and celebrate video game history for new generations.
