Rugrats: Retro Rewind Collection Coming to Nintendo Switch on May 15

Limited Run Games has announced Rugrats: Retro Rewind Collection, a digital and physical re-release package that compiles six classic Rugrats titles for the Nintendo Switch.

The collection arrives on the Nintendo Switch eShop on May 15, with physical Standard and Deluxe Editions available for pre-order on Limited Run Games’ website from May 1 through May 31.

The Retro Rewind Collection aggregates Rugrats games originally released across late-1990s and early-2000s platforms, offering both nostalgic value and modern conveniences.

Limited Run Games described the compilation as including fan-favorite entries such as Search for Reptar and Studio Tour alongside other classic entries from the PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, and Game Boy Advance lineups.

Included games and original platforms (as announced):

- Rugrats: Search for Reptar — originally released in 1998 for PlayStation.

- The Rugrats Movie — originally released for Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

- Rugrats: Time Travelers — originally released in 1999 for Game Boy Color.

- Rugrats: Studio Tour — originally released on PlayStation.

- Rugrats in Paris: The Movie — released across Game Boy Color, PlayStation, and N64.

- Rugrats: Castle Capers — released for Game Boy Advance in 2001.

The publisher has implemented several quality-of-life features for contemporary players, including screen filters, save-anywhere functionality, a rewind feature, and an in-game music player.

These additions aim to preserve the original gameplay while making the titles more accessible on modern hardware.

Physical release details and extras

The Deluxe Edition will include collectible items: an XS-style jewelcase, an official soundtrack, a Reptar puzzle-piece keychain, and a sticker sheet.

Limited Run Games is also releasing a Game Boy Color cartridge for the four Game Boy/Game Boy Color titles included in the compilation, catering to retro collectors.

Context and lineage

This compilation follows the 2024 release Adventures in Gameland and continues the recent resurgence of Rugrats-branded gaming projects.

Fans of the franchise and collectors of retro releases will find the May release notable for both its curated library and the hardware-specific cartridge option.

With the digital release set for May 15 and physical pre-orders open in May, anticipation is building among longtime fans and retro collectors ahead of the launch.
