Game Source Entertainment, TVT Studios and Ratata Arts have announced a delay to the release of their rhythm roguelike Ratatan for Nintendo Switch 2.

Originally planned for an earlier window, the team now confirms a worldwide digital launch on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 15, 2026.

The announcement follows a developer update posted on Steam by producer Sakajiri Kazuto and reiterates that the project began with Kickstarter backing.

In the Steam update, Sakajiri expressed deep gratitude to the game’s Kickstarter backers and acknowledged that their early support made the project possible.

He explained that the team needs additional development time: early public testing and Early Access feedback prompted more substantial adjustments than initially planned, and expanding online features and multi-platform support increased the scope of work.

Sakajiri said the studio opted to delay the release to ensure the team can deliver the best possible version of Ratatan, apologized to backers for the wait, and stated confidence in the October 15, 2026 launch date.

Ratatan is framed as a spiritual successor to Patapon from Japan Studio and Pyramid, and development involves Patapon series producer Hiroyuki Kotani.

Set on the toy-like island of Rataport, the game follows a creature named Ratatan and the army of Cobun who share the goal of reaching The Everafter and meeting The Goddess.

Ratatan blends rhythm mechanics with roguelike progression: players issue commands to Cobun by inputting sequences to the beat.

Accurate rhythmic input triggers Fever Mode, which alters the background music and unlocks enhanced character actions.

Officially advertised features from the publisher include:

- Rhythm action: Use timed rhythm sequences to command Cobun, control positioning, and decide when to advance or retreat.

- 2D animation: Emphasis on hand-crafted 2D animation to give characters personality and lively performance.

- Interactive audio: Fever Mode changes music interactively and impacts gameplay when rhythm inputs are executed correctly.

The title will be distributed digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on October 15, 2026.

Developers have released a trailer alongside the update.

The delay underscores the team’s focus on incorporating Early Access feedback and building online and cross-platform features prior to the final launch.
