Digital Foundry, renowned for its thorough technical analyses, has published an extensive performance comparison of Capcom's highly-anticipated Resident Evil Requiem.
With its release set for February 27, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam, fans are eager to see how the survival horror title pushes the limits of next-generation hardware.
In a recently released 26-minute video, Digital Foundry delves deeply into the technical aspects of Resident Evil Requiem across all major platforms.
The gaming community has since taken note of how well the Nintendo Switch 2 version stacks up against its competitors, particularly the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S.
Impressively, the Switch 2 port not only keeps pace with these powerful consoles but, in certain ways, even surpasses the Xbox Series S. Senior Digital Foundry analyst John Linneman remarked that while the Series S operates at a noticeably lower resolution, it offers a few technical features missing from Switch 2, such as higher detailed character models.
"Series S does run at a much lower resolution compared to Switch 2," Linneman explained, also emphasizing that the game runs smoother on Series S, likening the experience to choosing between a quality mode and performance mode.
"If a higher frame rate is your priority, Series S is your pick.
For slightly superior visual fidelity, Switch 2 takes the lead." PlayStation 5 delivers the best overall version of Resident Evil Requiem, but the Switch 2 iteration is closer in quality than many may expect.
According to series producer Oliver Mackenzie, "If the Switch 2 version stands up well next to the PS5, that's a significant achievement.
In most respects, it closely resembles the PS5 edition." Mackenzie highlighted that the PlayStation 5 port boasts ray tracing for enhanced lighting realism—a feature absent from the Switch 2 version—and superior hair textures, especially evident in cutscenes on both PS5 and Series X. Both analysts expressed particular admiration for Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2 when played in handheld mode.
Mackenzie described the handheld visuals as "truly extraordinary" and "nearly unbelievable" for the platform, noting that, despite the internal resolution dropping to 360p in handheld mode, the graphical performance remains exceptional.
He called it "one of the most visually impressive experiences currently available on Switch 2." With Capcom's continued commitment to pushing technical boundaries and maximizing platform capabilities, Resident Evil Requiem once again demonstrates the developer's prowess.
The game’s environments are richly detailed, character animations are strikingly lifelike, and its infamous monster designs maintain the franchise’s reputation for unsettling horror. Resident Evil Requiem lands on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam worldwide on February 27, 2026.
As excitement builds, Switch 2 owners can look forward to a truly next-generation survival horror experience, whether docked or on the go.
