Resident Evil Requiem Director Highlights GameChat for Nintendo Switch 2 in Creator’s Voice Feature

Nintendo continues its tradition of spotlighting influential voices in the gaming industry with a new Creator’s Voice video, featuring Koshi Nakanishi—the acclaimed director behind the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem.

Scheduled to release on February 27, 2026, for the Nintendo Switch 2, Resident Evil Requiem marks a major step forward for both the franchise and Capcom’s ongoing support of Nintendo hardware. In the Creator’s Voice segment, Nakanishi details the game's narrative foundation and how it fits into the larger Resident Evil universe.

He also sheds light on the technical journey of bringing Requiem to the Switch 2, a next-generation console that has already generated substantial buzz among fans and industry professionals. According to Nakanishi, shifting development to the Nintendo Switch 2 was initially met with skepticism among the team due to the franchise’s demanding visual standards.

“Given the upgraded specs of the Nintendo Switch 2, we questioned whether Resident Evil Requiem could run seamlessly on the hardware,” Nakanishi explained.

“Once we saw it up and running, the performance surpassed our expectations.

The visuals in handheld mode were especially impressive, and the development process went so smoothly that we proceeded to optimize the game for Switch 2 without compromise.” One standout feature Nakanishi discusses is the introduction of GameChat, a new platform tool integrated with Nintendo Switch 2.

Designed with multiplayer and social gaming in mind, GameChat enables players to connect, share experiences, and even confront horror titles like Resident Evil Requiem together.

“GameChat truly enhances the experience, especially for horror game fans who might feel uneasy playing alone,” Nakanishi remarked.

The ability to invite friends to watch or join a session makes the daunting atmosphere of Requiem more accessible for players who might otherwise hesitate to face it solo.

Nakanishi described GameChat as if "it was made just for Resident Evil," demonstrating Nintendo’s attention to immersive and inclusive gameplay features. Nakanishi also spoke on his inspirations for enemy design, notably referencing Zelda II: The Adventure of Link as a favorite entry in Nintendo’s storied franchise.

Elements from Zelda II’s distinctive combat mechanics influenced the enemy Scarmiglione in Nakanishi’s earlier title, Resident Evil Revelations for the Nintendo 3DS—drawing a parallel between the armored soldiers’ shield tactics and similar patterns in the Resident Evil universe. With Resident Evil Requiem’s official launch imminent, spoilers are already circulating online.

Capcom is urging the community to refrain from sharing unreleased content, and Hideki Kamiya, the creator of Resident Evil 2, has voiced support for maintaining the integrity of the player experience. Resident Evil Requiem is poised to become another milestone in Capcom’s longstanding collaboration with Nintendo.

As fans anticipate the game’s arrival on the Nintendo eShop and in physical stores, the seamless marriage of advanced hardware capabilities and social play tools like GameChat exemplifies the ongoing evolution of both the Resident Evil series and Nintendo Switch 2.
