Shift Up Reportedly Developing Stellar Blade for Nintendo Switch 2 After PS5 and PC Success
Stellar Blade, the action-adventure title developed by Shift Up, could be expanding its reach to the Nintendo Switch 2, according to a new report.
Having originally released exclusively on PlayStation 5 and later launching on PC, Stellar Blade has quickly become one of this year's acclaimed AAA offerings.
Switch 2, Nintendo's anticipated next-generation console, is positioned to benefit from the growing trend of third-party titles making the jump to its platform, if these reports hold true.
Stellar Blade’s journey began with a PlayStation 5-exclusive debut, where its fast-paced combat, compelling visuals, and engaging narrative helped it garner strong critical and commercial success.
The game has surpassed three million copies sold worldwide, a milestone recently highlighted by Korean gaming outlet PlayForum.
To commemorate this achievement, Shift Up reportedly rewarded their entire staff with Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, a nod to the studio’s appreciation of Nintendo’s hardware and signaling potential interest in future collaborations.
Although no official announcement has been made regarding a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade, PlayForum received a statement from Shift Up addressing the rumors.
The studio clarified that “no decision has been finalized” about bringing Stellar Blade to Nintendo Switch 2, while also stating that various platform options are being reviewed internally.
This balanced response signals Shift Up's openness to expanding the game's audience while stopping short of providing confirmation.
One factor complicating the potential release on Nintendo hardware is the publishing arrangement.
Sony Interactive Entertainment handled the publishing duties for both PlayStation 5 and PC releases of Stellar Blade.
It remains to be seen whether Sony would serve as publisher for a possible Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Notably, precedent exists for such cross-platform releases: in 2023, LEGO Horizon Adventures launched on Nintendo Switch under the PlayStation Publishing banner, illustrating a growing trend of PlayStation titles making appearances on rival platforms.
Stellar Blade’s critical and commercial performance, combined with the evolving landscape of third-party game distribution, makes a Nintendo Switch 2 port particularly compelling for fans and industry observers alike.
As Shift Up continues to explore its options, many are watching closely to see how this celebrated title may further broaden its appeal.
