Microsoft’s Switch 2 Support: Reggie Fils-Aimé Surprised by Limited Xbox Game Releases on Nintendo Platform In recent years, Microsoft has emphasized its commitment to broadening its audience by supporting Nintendo hardware, particularly the Nintendo Switch and its anticipated successor, the Nintendo Switch 2.

This cross-platform approach has already resulted in notable titles like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle arriving on Nintendo’s consoles.

However, several high-profile Xbox franchises—most notably Gears of War, Call of Duty, and Halo—have yet to make the transition.

This absence has drawn the attention of industry leaders and fans alike. Former Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aimé, recently sat down with Christopher Dring of The Game Business to discuss the Switch 2’s position in the broader gaming landscape.

Fils-Aimé expressed surprise at what he considers Microsoft’s underwhelming level of software support for Nintendo Switch 2.

“I’m genuinely surprised that Xbox hasn’t taken a more robust approach to bringing their games to Switch 2,” he stated.

According to Fils-Aimé, several Xbox titles could feasibly be ported to the platform, and he had expected more announcements, especially heading into the competitive holiday season.

“Leading into the fall, I thought we’d see major news on this front—but that hasn’t materialized,” he explained during the interview. The lack of flagship Xbox franchises on Nintendo platforms is noteworthy, especially as other major titles have started to branch out.

Just recently, Gears of War: Reloaded launched on the PlayStation 5, and Halo: Campaign Evolved is set for a similar debut on Sony’s console in the coming year.

Xbox’s Phil Spencer has repeatedly communicated his enthusiasm for supporting Nintendo systems, making the minimal presence of Xbox’s core IP on Switch 2 all the more conspicuous. That said, Fils-Aimé is not disappointed with Nintendo’s overall software lineup for Switch 2.

However, he did comment on the company’s somewhat unorthodox release selections.

“From a business standpoint, when I first reviewed the release lineup, it was unexpected—I didn’t anticipate seeing titles like Kirby Air Riders in the launch window.” On a positive note, Fils-Aimé praised the enhanced Nintendo Switch content and the benefits of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

He noted that offering enriched legacy titles and additional online perks has significantly boosted user engagement and contributed to the platform’s ongoing momentum.

“The free content accessible through Nintendo Switch Online has been a strong driver, and games like Bananza have certainly played a key role for Nintendo,” he said. During the wide-ranging interview, Fils-Aimé also reflected on the impact of record Switch 2 sales and shared his broader outlook for the gaming industry’s future.

With Nintendo Switch 2 already achieving significant sales milestones and Microsoft’s continued exploration of multi-platform partnerships, industry observers will be watching closely to see how both companies evolve their strategies—and whether Xbox’s major franchises ultimately find a home on Nintendo hardware.
