Legendary game developer Hideki Kamiya, best known for iconic titles such as Resident Evil 2, Bayonetta, and the acclaimed Okami, has joined the growing list of industry veterans securing their Nintendo Switch 2 preorder.
As anticipation for both the new hardware and the long-awaited Okami sequel builds, Kamiya's recent announcement marks a noteworthy development in the Japanese gaming landscape.
Kamiya, who is currently spearheading development on the Okami sequel at his new studio Clovers in close partnership with Capcom, took to social media this week to share his success in Japan’s highly competitive Switch 2 lottery system.
The lottery-based rollout in Japan requires both consumers and prominent figures in the industry alike to vie for early access to Nintendo’s anticipated hardware refresh.
This follows reports that Super Smash Bros.
director Masahiro Sakurai also secured his own Switch 2 invitation through the same process.
In his post, Kamiya revealed the contents of his pre-order: the Nintendo Switch 2 console, the upcoming Mario Kart World, and a Pro Controller.
He conveyed his approval simply, stating that he was pleased with the secured reservation.
This transparent approach from Nintendo underscores that even prominent developers are not privileged with automatic hardware distribution—they must, like their fans, participate in official sales procedures.
The new Okami sequel, currently under development at Clovers with Capcom’s support, is one of the most hotly anticipated projects in the adventure genre.
Okami's original release, celebrated for its unique sumi-e inspired art and mythological narrative, first launched on PlayStation 2 in 2006, later expanding to platforms including Wii, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and most recently, the Nintendo Switch via the eShop in 2018.
The game's legacy has endured over time, with critical acclaim for its innovative design and storytelling.
While neither Clovers nor Capcom has officially confirmed platform details for the Okami sequel, Kamiya’s enthusiasm for the Switch 2 strongly suggests the next generation Nintendo console is being considered as a key platform for future releases.
With the developer’s recent systems of choice and continued industry presence, this is promising news for Nintendo Switch fans worldwide.
As the Nintendo Switch 2 prepares for its market debut and titles such as Mario Kart World stoke community excitement, all eyes remain focused on Clovers and Capcom for new updates regarding the Okami sequel’s development and eventual release.
Until further announcements, gamers can look forward to seeing creative leaders like Hideki Kamiya embracing the same next-generation Nintendo experiences as their fans.
