Hori Racing Wheels Offer Full Compatibility With Mario Kart World on Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo’s Switch platform has long benefited from robust third-party accessory support, and Hori, a well-known Japanese hardware manufacturer, is a standout contributor.
During the Nintendo Switch generation, Hori released two officially licensed racing wheels specifically for titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
These controllers quickly became popular among fans seeking a more immersive racing experience.
With the recent launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 and the highly anticipated Mario Kart World, many gamers were left wondering whether their investment in these specialized controllers would carry forward to the new hardware.
According to a recent evaluation by Tom’s Guide, Hori’s racing wheels deliver seamless compatibility with Mario Kart World on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The publication’s reviewer noted that both the wheels and their accompanying floor pedals worked instantly, with no additional setup required.
"Ahead of Switch 2’s release, there wasn’t much clarity regarding third-party support, so I was pleasantly surprised when the Hori racing wheel functioned immediately without issues," the reviewer explained.
The test also highlighted that while first-generation Switch controllers cannot wake the Switch 2 from sleep, all their other functions—including those on the Hori wheels—operate as intended.
The pedals, conveniently connected at the rear through a standard-style connector, also performed reliably.
One of the most notable takeaways from Tom’s Guide’s hands-on test was the wheel’s performance in Mario Kart World’s Free Roam mode.
The wheel was described as the “perfect” accessory for cruising through the game’s expansive map, with the well-placed control buttons and D-pad enhancing the navigation experience.
"Switching over to Free Roam in Mario Kart World made for an enjoyable session with the racing wheel, especially when exploring and selecting destinations on the overworld map," the reviewer reiterated.
Despite these positives, the report clarifies that while the Hori Pro Deluxe racing wheel adds authenticity and fun to casual gameplay, it’s not an essential purchase for competitive racing.
"After extensive testing, I’d say that standard controllers still provide the optimal experience for online play or traditional split-screen racing with friends and family," the report concluded.
For players interested in alternative options, Nintendo offers a Joy-Con 2 steering wheel set in its signature red and blue colors, providing a more affordable accessory for the Switch 2.
Several other third-party wheels are also available, and Nintendo has published a comprehensive compatibility guide for Switch 2 accessories, helping users identify which controllers and add-ons are officially supported.
Hori’s racing wheels not only remain compatible with Mario Kart World but can also be used with other racing games on both the original Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2, offering extra value for racing enthusiasts.
As Nintendo continues to expand hardware compatibility, these tested and verified accessories help ensure a legendary racing experience remains within reach for fans now and into the next generation.
