Description

Content Warning, Landfall’s acclaimed first-person co-op horror game, has taken the PC gaming world by storm since its release in April 2024.

The game's novel premise—players film frightening events within creepy environments to upload on the in-game platform 'SpöökTube' for in-universe fame—quickly gained traction through a 24-hour free launch on Steam, fostering a massive, active community and critical acclaim.

As of June 2024, Content Warning boasts over 54,000 user reviews and a 'Very Positive' rating, with 6.6 million players having claimed the game on Steam, according to official Landfall figures. However, this runaway success has also made Content Warning a target for imitation.

Nintendo Switch users have reported a surge in low-quality clones attempting to capitalize on Landfall’s formula.

The most recent example is 'Content Warning: Scary Filming,' set to launch on the Nintendo eShop on March 13th, 2025.

Published by BurleaGamesStudio, known for titles like Street Survival: Homeless Simulator and Thief Simulator: Heist Master, the game markets itself as a cooperative horror experience mirroring the gameplay and aesthetics of Landfall's original. In response to the proliferation of these unofficial clones, Landfall has been proactive in protecting its intellectual property.

The studio released a video warning fans about unauthorized versions of Content Warning on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms.

Landfall representatives clarified that efforts are ongoing to have these imitations removed from digital storefronts, stating that while the process can be slow, their aim is clear: "We are working to ensure only sanctioned versions of Content Warning are available to players.

Our focus is on bringing a high-quality, official console release in the future." While an official Nintendo Switch version of Content Warning has not been confirmed, Landfall has assured fans that plans for console releases are underway, with further announcements expected sometime later in 2025.

This effort aligns with the studio’s reputation for creative and humorous titles, following in the footsteps of Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, and demonstrates its commitment to delivering quality experiences across platforms. The emergence of Content Warning clones is part of a broader trend on the eShop, with multiple independent developers reporting unauthorized or copycat games.

Recently, Steelkrill, developer of The Backrooms 1998, identified a direct clone by publisher 'COOL DEVS,' which has since been removed from the Switch eShop after being flagged to Nintendo. Players seeking to experience Content Warning on the Nintendo Switch are advised to verify the publisher and developer information before downloading, as only Landfall is authorized to distribute the genuine game.

Vigilance remains key as the gaming community awaits potential official console announcements from Landfall.
