Popolocrois Monogatari 2, the beloved PlayStation RPG originally developed by G-Artists and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, has finally received a complete English fan translation.
Released exclusively in Japan in 2000, Popolocrois Monogatari II is the third installment in the Popolocrois series, following the fantasy adventure of a young prince who embarks on a quest to save his kingdom from the threat of a sinister goddess.
The Popolocrois franchise began as a manga in 1984 and expanded into video games with 1996's Popolocrois Monogatari and 1998's Poporogue, both of which were PlayStation 1 exclusives in Japan.
Over the years, the series has gained a devoted following, particularly among RPG enthusiasts and collectors of Japanese role-playing games.
While the PSP title Popolocrois offered a localized adaptation in the West that combined storylines from the first two PlayStation games, it notably omitted several cutscenes and locations, disappointing fans who had hoped for a more faithful experience.
To address this, a partial English patch was released in 2022 by community translators LostOkina and Wyrdwad, although it relied on machine translations for dialogue with non-essential NPCs and remained incomplete.
Now, building upon years of dedication from the fan community, a new and far more comprehensive English translation patch has been launched by Zenksren, who credits LostOkina, Wyrdwad, Aquagon, ERT, and other contributors for their essential roles.
According to updates from recognized Popolocrois expert @keke_094, this complete patch represents a significant milestone for English-speaking fans, allowing a much more faithful experience of the original PlayStation 1 classic.
The translation patch is currently available for download at ROM Hack Plaza and has been thoroughly tested to function on original PlayStation hardware as well as popular emulators such as Retroarch using the SwanStation core, standalone DuckStation, and no$psx.
This release ensures that both hardware purists and emulator users can enjoy the game seamlessly.
For those who wish to explore the origins of the Popolocrois saga, an English translation of the first PlayStation game is also accessible online.
With this new development, Popolocrois Monogatari 2 can now be fully appreciated by RPG fans around the world, cementing its place as an important piece of PlayStation and JRPG history.
