Rocket Panda Games has officially unveiled a new DLC character for Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch, introducing Japanese pop culture icon Kaho Shibuya as a playable character.
This announcement brings a fresh wave of content to the acclaimed side-scrolling beat 'em up, developed by Rocket Panda Games and celebrated for its fast-paced combat and engaging co-op gameplay.
Kaho Shibuya’s in-game persona draws inspiration from her real-world persona as a renowned cosplayer and entertainer.
Players can now experience the magic and might of Shibuya, portrayed as the daughter of a dedicated baker turned magical girl, whose unique arsenal is powered by bread-themed attacks.
Her move set, including projectile baguettes and dynamic croissant combos, adds a whimsical twist to the classic beat 'em up format, seamlessly blending charm with competitive gameplay.
The downloadable content expands Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Ultimate with several notable features:
- A new playable character: Kaho Shibuya, available in both Co-Op and Battlegrounds Modes.
- Four additional enemy mob characters populating the latest stage.
- A brand-new stage inspired by a fictionalized version of Los Angeles, styled in celebration of Anime Expo season and set for play in Co-Op Mode.
- Unique collaborations within the stage, featuring cameos from the popular LA-based food truck Okamoto Kitchen and Japan’s 3D latte art shop Latte Pocket.
To mark the launch of this DLC, the Japanese girl band Phantom Breakers is releasing an original track titled “WISH” featuring Kaho Shibuya herself on vocals.
This single will be available alongside the DLC on all major streaming services, highlighting a cross-medium celebration of the character’s debut.
Speaking about her involvement, Kaho Shibuya shared, “I have always loved 2D side-scrolling beat ’em ups, so becoming a powerful DLC character is truly a dream come true.
My in-game avatar is a magical girl combined with a baker—a blend of color and sweetness.
Magical girls are a fantasy many of us share, especially if you grew up watching series like Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura, or Madoka Magica.
For her weapon, I wanted something memorable, and since baguettes are a recurring motif in some of my favorite games, it felt right.” Shibuya expressed her enthusiasm for seeing her creativity and passions come together in this collaborative project, and she hopes players enjoy taking on enemies with her bread-themed skills.
Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Ultimate is currently available on the Nintendo Switch via the eShop.
The addition of Kaho Shibuya, along with the vibrant LA setting and exclusive collaborations, underscores Rocket Panda Games’ commitment to expanding the game's universe and engaging its dedicated fanbase.
