The Persona series, developed by Atlus and part of SEGA's family of brands, launched in 1996 and has grown into one of the studio's flagship properties with multiple mainline games, spin-offs, anime adaptations and international releases across PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo platforms such as the Nintendo Switch.
The franchise is also prominent across digital storefronts including the Nintendo eShop and Steam.
Variety states that Christopher Monfette is attached to write the adaptation and will serve as showrunner and an executive producer.
Production company 21 Laps — whose credits include multiple film and television projects — will be onboard with Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Robert Atwood listed as executive producers.
Additional executive producers named by the report include Dmitri M.
Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I.
Stevenson via Story Kitchen.
SEGA will be represented on the production by Toru Nakahara as an executive producer, and Emily Feher is reportedly overseeing the project for 21 Laps under the company’s overall TV deal with Netflix.
In journalistic terms, Variety’s sources indicate Christopher Monfette will lead the writers’ room and overall creative direction as showrunner and executive producer, while 21 Laps and its producers Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Robert Atwood will manage production responsibilities alongside Story Kitchen partners and SEGA’s Toru Nakahara.
Emily Feher is expected to coordinate the project internally for 21 Laps.
Netflix has declined to comment on the project, per the report.
The streaming service has previously adapted video game properties in different formats — notably the animated Castlevania series and the Studio Trigger-produced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — both of which were distributed on Netflix.
At present, Variety’s coverage does not specify which Persona entry or elements from the franchise will be adapted, nor is there a production timetable or release window.
Atlus and SEGA have continued to support the Persona brand across games and multimedia, and any live-action series will join a growing list of game-to-screen projects in development or release on major streaming platforms.
As further details become public — including official confirmation from Netflix, casting information, or a premiere date — outlets will update coverage.
For now, the Variety report provides the clearest outline of the creative and production teams attached to the proposed Persona live-action series.
