Description

Solo developer Tim Fitzrandolph, better known in gaming circles as Walaber, has announced a bold new sales-based initiative for his upcoming title, Parking Garage Rally Circuit.

The indie racing game, whose development journey began during the Ludum Dare 54 game jam in 2023, is currently slated for a commercial release on PC via Steam later this year.

Responding to enthusiastic community feedback, Fitzrandolph revealed in a recent press release that Nintendo Switch and Sega Saturn versions could become reality—dependent on sales milestones. Parking Garage Rally Circuit is inspired by the graphical and gameplay style reminiscent of classic Sega Saturn-era racers.

Players compete in fast-paced rally tournaments across a collection of tightly designed parking garages, with the objective of collecting gold medals on each course and climbing the online leaderboards.

The game's unique setting and retro aesthetic have quickly attracted attention, especially from fans nostalgic for the Saturn era and the thriving modern retro gaming scene. In his statement, Fitzrandolph explained, "Whenever I share updates on social media, I receive a lot of comments from people hoping for a Nintendo Switch version and an authentic Sega Saturn release.

As a solo developer, committing to new platforms is a significant undertaking, but the passion from fans has made me reconsider.

To that end, I’m officially announcing that if the game reaches 50,000 copies sold, I'll begin development on a Nintendo Switch version; should sales surpass 100,000 copies, I will also bring Parking Garage Rally Circuit to the Sega Saturn." Walaber’s commitment to a Sega Saturn port is notable, given the complexity of developing homebrew titles for the vintage hardware.

Fitzrandolph acknowledged the Saturn homebrew scene is small and tooling is limited, but there is precedent for fan-made 3D games running on the system.

He expressed excitement for the challenge, emphasizing that such a project would only be feasible if sales justified the time investment. Parking Garage Rally Circuit marks Fitzrandolph’s continued contribution to the indie and retro-inspired game development sphere.

Its anticipated PC release, coupled with the potential for expansion onto the Nintendo Switch and Sega Saturn, underscores the enduring appeal of classic gaming platforms among dedicated fans and developers alike. Those interested in tracking the game’s progress or supporting its Switch and Saturn ambitions can wishlist Parking Garage Rally Circuit on Steam and follow Walaber's official channels for further updates.

As the release date approaches, the game stands poised to unite fans across generations of hardware under a shared banner of retro racing excitement.
