Pokémon GO, Niantic’s globally renowned location-based mobile game, is about to usher in a new era for players by introducing Generation IX Pokémon from the Paldea region, originally featured in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Following their initial reveal during the August 2023 Pokémon Presents showcase, Niantic officially confirmed that Generation IX Pokémon would begin appearing in Pokémon GO on September 5, 2023, marking an exciting update for fans and collectors alike.
The arrival of Paldean Pokémon in Pokémon GO is structured around two dedicated in-game events.
The first, titled 'A Paldean Adventure,' runs from September 5 through September 10, 2023.
During this period, key starters and select species from the Paldea region will be available in the wild.
Players will have the chance to catch Sprigatito, Floragato, Meowscarada, Fuecoco, Crocalor, Skeledirge, Quaxly, Quaxwell, Quaquaval, Lechonk, and both male and female forms of Oinkologne.
These debuts further expand the game's already impressive Pokédex and give trainers a meaningful connection to the acclaimed Nintendo Switch titles, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Building on the momentum, Niantic is launching the 'Ultra Unlock: Paldea' event from September 10 to September 15, 2023.
This second phase introduces even more Paldean Pokémon making their Pokémon GO debut, including Nymble, Lokix, Pawmi, Pawmo, Pawmot, Bombirdier, Frigibax, Arctibax, and Baxcalibur.
Each event features its own exclusive Raids, Special Research tasks, and Event Bonuses, enhancing the gameplay experience and rewarding active participation.
In addition to wild encounters, players will also be able to hatch Paldean starter Pokémon and Lechonk from 7 km Eggs throughout the event period.
From September 13, trainers can unlock new Teal Mask-inspired Trainer Items, offering a nod to recent storylines and visual designs from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Since its original release in July 2016, Pokémon GO has consistently maintained a massive global player base, frequently refreshing its content with new Pokémon generations following releases for Nintendo hardware.
Developer Niantic’s partnership with The Pokémon Company and Nintendo has resulted in more than a billion downloads and a significant presence on the eShop, positioning Pokémon GO as one of the most successful mobile games of all time.
