Nintendo has confirmed that the prices for its original Nintendo Switch family of consoles, including the OG, Lite, and OLED models, will increase in both the United States and Canada starting August 2025.
This adjustment, officially attributed to changing market conditions, will affect standard Switch models and select accessories, while prices for the upcoming Switch 2 console and Nintendo Switch Online memberships remain unchanged.
At Target stores across the US, these changes are already in effect.
The Nintendo Switch OLED now retails for $399.99—an increase of $50—while the standard Switch model has risen by $40 to $339.99, and the Switch Lite is now priced at $229.99, up $30 from previous listings.
These price updates follow a June 2025 announcement from Nintendo of Canada detailing similar increases for Canadian consumers.
Despite early reports suggesting that the Switch OLED would cost as much as the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo has clarified that the Switch 2 will retail for $449.99, maintaining a $50 difference between generations.
Furthermore, prices for Switch 2 games, the console itself, and Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) subscriptions will not be impacted by these adjustments at this time.
Select Switch 2 accessories, amiibo, and the Alarmo accessory are, however, also seeing changes in pricing.
A Nintendo representative stated that these increases are 'based on market conditions,' echoing similar moves from competitors like PlayStation and Xbox, both of which have adjusted console pricing in recent months.
Fluctuations in tariffs and ongoing economic shifts in the US were cited as additional influences behind the decision.
Industry-wide, hardware costs have been a dynamic issue in 2025, forcing manufacturers to adapt their strategies.
For consumers considering a purchase of the original Switch models, now may be the time to act before the full price hike rolls out to more retailers and territories.
While first-party software, Switch 2 products, and online service subscriptions are stable for now, further changes cannot be ruled out given the rapidly evolving market landscape.
For verified price information and the latest updates, shoppers are advised to consult official Nintendo channels and major retail partners, as eShop listings and in-store tags may vary over the coming days.
