Description

In a significant shift ahead of the August 3 pricing update, major American retailer Target has revised the prices of Nintendo Switch consoles in the United States.

This move brings noticeable cost increases to several models, reflecting broader market changes influenced by international trade policies and tariffs impacting electronic goods. The official Target website now lists increased prices across the Nintendo Switch console lineup.

The standard Nintendo Switch sees a price jump from its longstanding MSRP of USD299.99 to USD339.99—a 13% increase, amounting to a USD40 rise.

The more portable Nintendo Switch Lite is now USD229.99, up from USD199.99, representing a USD30 increase.

The premium Nintendo Switch OLED Model, popular for its enhanced display, jumps from USD349.99 to USD399.99, a USD50 or roughly 14% hike. Compared to recent changes in the Canadian market, these US increases are more substantial.

On August 1, 2025, Canadian Nintendo Switch hardware experienced more moderate adjustments: the main console rose from CAD399.99 to CAD419.99 (about USD14), the Switch Lite from CAD259.99 to CAD279.99 (about USD14), and the OLED model from CAD449.99 to CAD489.99 (a USD29 increase).

The relatively smaller changes in Canada have been attributed to fluctuating exchange rates, whereas the steeper US increments correlate with new import tariffs. Trade policy has been at the heart of these US market adjustments.

Nintendo manufactures both the current Nintendo Switch and the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 for North America in Vietnam.

As of August 1, 2025, a 20% tariff is now levied on gaming hardware imported to the United States—up from the temporary 10% rate implemented during negotiations between April and July of this year.

The increased tariff rate effectively raises the cost of imported gaming hardware, directly impacting retail pricing for consumers. In statements provided via company channels, Nintendo has not yet adjusted retail prices for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 in either the US or Canada.

However, company representatives acknowledge ongoing assessments in light of evolving trade environments, suggesting that further pricing updates cannot be ruled out. The rising costs underscore not just the volatility of global supply chains but also the direct impact that tariffs have on consumer electronics in the US.

As Nintendo continues to develop its hardware platform portfolio, including the Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, OLED Model, and the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, industry watchers and consumers alike will be monitoring for further developments and potential price adjustments on the horizon.
