Nitrome, the studio behind Bomb Chicken and the team involved in Shovel Knight Dig, has announced Super Leap Day for Nintendo Switch.
The developer revealed the game as a fast-paced, one-button platformer that delivers a brand-new level every day; Nitrome has not confirmed a release date for the Switch version.
Gameplay and features
Super Leap Day is built around single-button precision action and a rotating daily calendar of levels.
According to Nitrome’s official overview, the game provides quick play sessions intended for on-the-go use and everyday downtime, with a fresh stage unlocked each day indefinitely.
Players will choose from a roster of contestants, each with distinct abilities — examples given by the developer include a character whose inflated head grants extra float, a suction-powered character that can vacuum objects, and a sticky creature able to traverse walls and ceilings.
The starting hero, Yolk, is also upgradeable.
Power-ups, progression and collectibles
Nitrome outlined a variety of power-ups and shop systems within Super Leap Day.
Players can discover temporary abilities in levels — such as a tornado that covers hazards with snow or a pet that eats fruit and interacts with wildlife — and can convert collected fruit into power-ups using in-level fruit blenders.
Coins collected on stages can be spent in an in-game shop to unlock further power-ups and upgrades.
Completing levels awards a gold cup that appears on the game’s calendar screen as a record of accomplishments.
Bonus modes and multiplayer
The announcement also listed multiple single-button bonus game modes: Golf Day, Abseiling Day, Racing Day, Pinball Day, Fishing Day and Rolling Day.
Each bonus category contains 20 levels divided across beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert difficulties.
Local competitive multiplayer supports up to four players, with unique multiplayer power-ups and checkpoint mechanics that affect race outcomes.
