Nintendo has offered the first public glimpse of how Miis will appear in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, the company’s forthcoming entry in its motion-sports franchise.

An advertisement published in Japan shows a Sportsmate alongside a full-bodied Mii, confirming that Nintendo’s avatar system will return for the title on the hardware listed in the advert as Nintendo Switch 2.

The advertisement, which surfaced in Japanese marketing materials, displays the new Mii body type used throughout the game’s roster of sports.

Early reactions online to the reveal have been mixed; some players called the new proportions unusual or offbeat, while others noted the continuity of including Miis as an alternate avatar option.

Nintendo confirmed that players will be able to create a Mii character or use a Sportsmate in the game’s menus.

According to the official listing in the advert, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, 2026.

The announcement reiterates the series’ use of motion controls: Joy‑Con 2 controllers are shown being used as rackets, bows and handlebars across multiple events.

Nintendo also notes the game returns players to Wuhu Island, the series locale first popularized in Wii Sports Resort.

Nintendo’s materials list 12 sports at launch: Bowling, Tennis, Archery, Boxing, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Basketball, Golf, Thumb Wrestling, Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane.

The advert also references warm-up activities such as Jump Rope.

Nintendo has confirmed that 100‑Pin Bowling from Wii Sports Resort will be included in the bowling offerings; Nintendo previously popularized that mode on Wii hardware.

The marketing emphasizes both local and solo play: players can team up or compete with friends and family, or play alone.

The listing also specifies control variations for certain modes—for example, a mouse-like Joy‑Con 2 input for skateboarding and motion inputs for leisure sports such as Power Cruising and Prop Plane.

This first look underlines Nintendo’s intent to marry familiar franchise elements—Miis, Wuhu Island and classic mini-games—with new hardware-specific controls.

As the October 22, 2026 release date approaches, Nintendo is expected to share further details through official channels such as Nintendo Direct and the Nintendo eShop listing for the game.
